Durante gran parte de nuestra historia, no sabíamos escribir, pero podíamos leer. Y leíamos todo: los ríos, las rocas, los árboles, las montañas.
Pero éramos nómadas y cuando debíamos movernos y dejar todo atrás, aquellos ríos y rocas y árboles y montañas que habíamos aprendido a leer ya no eran visibles y se convertían en un recuerdo.
Sólo una escritura nos seguía a todas partes: los símbolos escritos en el cielo.
Una y otra vez aprendimos a leerlos. En distintos lugares, en distintos tiempos.
Mira a tu alrededor. Este es uno de esos lugares y uno de esos tiempos. Es hora de volver a leer.

Rodrigo Zúñiga (1991) es autor de la serie de libros Bajo la Noche de Atacama y creador del proyecto de astroturismo del mismo nombre. Desde San Pedro de Atacama, se dedica a la difusión de la astronomía con un enfoque centrado en la conexión humana con el cielo nocturno.

For much of our history, we couldn’t write, but we could read. And we read everything: the rivers, the rocks, the trees, the mountains.
But we were nomads, and when we had to move on and leave everything behind, those rivers and rocks and trees and mountains that we could read were no longer visible, and became a memory.
Only one writing followed us everywhere: the symbols written in the sky.
Again and again, we learned to read them. In different places, at different times.
Look around. This is one of those places and one of those times. Let’s read them again.

Rodrigo Zúñiga (1991) is the author of the Under the Night of Atacama book series and the creator of the astrotourism project of the same name. Based in San Pedro de Atacama, he is dedicated to connecting people with the night sky through immersive experiences under the stars.
